A CAMPAIGN group behind efforts to bring public access defibrillators (PADs) to Barrhead has added another two to the town’s streetscape.

As part of the Levern Valley Defibrillator Community Partnership (LVDCP), the charity’s electrical contractor, Field Electrics of Neilston, installed a PAD outside Barrhead Housing Association and D. Moodie & Co.

And after the charity was established in August last year, its aim of installing up to 30 of the devices in the town is becoming a reality.

Douglas Yates, chairman of LVDCP, expressed his thanks to D. Moodie & Co. and Barrhead Housing Association for allowing a defibrillator to be fitted on their properties.

He said: “Over the next six months, because of the partnership which Levern Valley Defibrillator Community Partnerships has forged with East Renfrewshire Council and other local organisations, supported by Barrhead Rotary, we as a charity expect to install at least a further 12 public access defibrillators throughout the town.

“It’s amazing to think from a standing start last August in a 12-month period there will probably be 20 or more public access defibrillators installed throughout Barrhead to be a life-saving resource for the people living in or visiting our community.”

In addition, the Barrhead Rotary is supporting the Heart Start Defibrillator Awareness courses being run by Levern Valley Defibrillator Community Partnership.

The first of these courses will be held in Auchenback Resource Centre on Friday between 1.30pm and 3.30pm.
