FRANK Lynch toasted his Dunterlie ‘double diamonds’ in 2003 after they clinched their second trophy of a successful season.
The Arthurlie manager described his team as “special’’ after a dramatic week which saw them clinch the Super League First Division championship, as well as the Central League Cup.
A 1-1 draw with Bellshill was all but enough to clinch the league title. Then Arthurlie eased out Larkhall to claim their second piece of silverware.
Confirmation of the league title came later, after nearest rivals Bellshill lost 5-2 to Troon.
Lynch said at the time: “I’m absolutely delighted. It doesn’t matter how you do it, just as long as you do at the end of the day.
“I’ve always maintained that the league table doesn’t lie and to get promoted as champions is a huge lift for the club.
“Larkhall made it difficult for us but credit again to our defending from front to back.
“In the last 25 minutes we were outstanding.
“It’s an absolutely fantastic feeling to win two trophies, considering the changes in personnel we made at the start.”
He added: “We have looked at everything through honest eyes and, when we saw the players after pre-season, we knew something special was happening.
“From the committee right through to the players and supporters, everyone has been really positive and it all comes down to honesty.’’
