A MAN is facing trial accused of breaking into a care home on Boxing Day and stealing a number of items from an 83-year-old woman.
Daniel Maka allegedly targeted Millview Care Home, in Carlibar Road, Barrhead, on December 26 last year.
It is claimed that he stole sweets, clothes, board games, toys and a decoration.
The 37-year-old is also said to have committed a breach of the peace in the town’s Main Street on the same day by behaving in a disorderly manner and shouting and swearing.
He faces a third charge of breaking Section 90(2)(a) of the Police and Fire Reform (Scotland) Act 2012 by resisting, obstructing or hindering PCs David Crawford and Angela Bell by allegedly struggling violently with them and lashing out with his legs.
And he faces a fourth charge of assaulting PC Bell – in breach of Section 90(1)(a) of the Police and Fire Reform (Scotland) Act 2012 – by spitting at her while the officer was carrying out her duties.
Maka, of Balgray Crescent, Barrhead, pleaded not guilty to all four charges at a pre-trial hearing at Paisley Sheriff Court.
The case was adjourned for a further pre-trial hearing to take place, with a trial expected to go ahead later this year.
