GENEROUS pupils from Uplawmoor Primary School have raised over £100 for the Fairtrade Foundation.
Children in Primary 4 and 5 hosted a Big Fairtrade Breakfast, during which they were given a job either in planning, education, communication, advertising or finance.
After learning about ethical trading, the youngsters wanted to raise awareness of the issue by educating others on a day where the school received £117 worth of donations.
All food served at the breakfast – including more than 80 pancakes made by the children – was either a Fairtrade good or Scottish produce which were kindly sourced by the Co-operative Food group.
Having learned that the farmers who grow the food we eat often cannot afford to feed their own families, the Uplawmoor pupils decided to do their bit to help out.
The school’s message for the day was "Sit Down for Breakfast and Stand Up for Farmers" and included an educational assembly on the topic, written and delivered by the pupils.
Beth Tait, 8, and Toni Kee and Arrah Young, both 9, were part of the communications team on the day and said: “We hope this will help farmers feed their families breakfast, lunch and dinner.”
