TWO Old Firm legends are teaming up to honour one of Barrhead"s favourite sons.

The Eric Hickey charity shield match will take place on Sunday at Dunterlie Park and will feature a select team of legends from Arthurlie and Pollok football clubs.

Some well-known faces will also be representing the teams including Ex-St Mirren and Celtic hero Frank McGarvey, Rangers super striker Mark Hateley and former MSP and Leader of the Scottish Socialist Party Tommy Sheridan who used to play for Benburb and East Kilbride.

Some more high-profile guest are expected to arrive on the day as well and don their kits for charity.

Councillor Danny Devlin, who knew Eric for more than 16 years will be there to give his support.

He said: 'The charity match is an excellent tribute to Eric and not a day passes by when he is not missed by the community, friends and family.' The Hickey family issued the following statement: 'We are very pleased at Eric being remembered in this way as he loved his football and loved Arthurlie.

'The day itself should be a fun day, a celebration'. They added that they would be going to support the charities and hoped many others would follow suit.

All proceeds from the game will benefit The Accord Hospice, The Beatson Cancer Centre and The Cystic Fibrosis Trust.

And after a slow start the sponsorship for the event has started flying in and organisers would like to thank: Scott"s Stores, Bobby Phillips, A&M Newsagents, Victoria Stores, Peter Imrie, Michaels Hairdressers, Maple Joiners, One Beauty, Bluestone, The Arthurlie Inns, Arthurlie Catering, Café Borgia, The Bankhouse, The Bull Inn, The Anchor Bar, and The Dunfermline Building Society who have kindly donated a full set of Arthurlie strips for the day.
