A BIKE sale will take place in Barrhead next month, with pre-loved sets of wheels on offer from just £10.

The event is being hosted by Barrhead Mellow Velo as part of efforts to ensure all local residents have affordable access to cycling.

It will take place at the Barrhead Centre, in Carlibar Road, on Wednesday, April 3, from 1pm until 3pm.

There will be a variety of bikes on sale for both children and adults, all of which have been reconditioned and safety checked by the Mellow Velo team.

Mellow Velo is a unique cycle and repair project staffed by those who attend the Barrhead Centre – a day centre for adults with additional support needs.

Residents can access the centre at any time to get support with fitting tyres, repairing punctures, servicing bikes or general advice on cycling.

Safety checks can also be carried out for a small fee.

Councillor Katie Pragnell, East Renfrewshire’s health and social care convener, told the Barrhead News: “Mellow Velo is such a brilliant and unique service.

“Residents can get a bike at a great price and the staff have the opportunity to learn new skills and work in a supportive environment.

“The lighter days and better weather is the perfect time to get cycling, so if you’re looking for a new bike, I would encourage you to pop along to the sale.

“Mellow Velo are also always looking for donations, so if you have an unwanted bike at home, please consider bringing this along too, to help us keep the service going.”
