Scottish Conservative leader Douglas Ross met with representatives of the Jewish community in East Renfrewshire last week.

Mr Ross was in the area as part of the local election campaign and visited Giffnock Shul, alongside Eastwood MSP Jackson Carlaw and Paul Edlin, president of the Glasgow Jewish Representative Council, who is standing for the Conservatives in Newton Mearns South and Eaglesham.

The party leader described the experience as “truly humbling and excellent.”

He said: “I would like to thank the Glasgow Jewish Council Representatives for inviting me.

“The meeting gave me a real insight into the challenges they are facing and how we can support them as politicians.

“There is simply no excuse for any antisemitic incidents anywhere in our society and we all have a duty to call them out.

“The Scottish Conservatives will always stand shoulder to shoulder with our Jewish friends.”

Following the visit, Mr Carlaw said he was looking forward to being back at Giffnock Schul for the Yom HaShoah commemoration.

He added: “I have always been extremely proud to represent a constituency with such a strong Jewish population and stand up for their interests.

“It is very rewarding as a MSP to have the chance to visit the Giffnock Shul to witness its history and see first-hand the role the synagogue plays in East Renfrewshire on a daily basis.”
