A NUMBER of trains to and from Glasgow Central Station have been delayed or cancelled this morning due to overrunning engineering works.

ScotRail announced on Twitter that some trains were not able to get out of two depots due to the works.

The line has now reopened but it will "take some time" to get trains in the right place.

Replacement buses are currently running from Central Station.

Train tickets and Smartcards are also being accepted on McGill's buses between Glasgow, Paisley and Wemyss Bay and on Stagecoach buses between Glasgow and Carlisle.

Customers are being advised to check the ScotRail app ahead of travelling for updates.

Network Rail Scotland has also apologised for the disruption.

A tweet read: "We're really sorry for the disruption to ScotRail customers travelling to/from Glasgow Central this morning.

"Delays to essential maintenance work overnight meant that we were unable to reopen a section of track serving two depots in time for some trains to leave."
